Tobias is a Chicago born,
London based director. In 2024, tobias directed his debut short You Had My
Smile, shot on 16mm, following a former sailor who goes back out to sea to
reconcile with the loss of his daughter. It has been screened at Two Short
Nights, The Big Short, Indie Flicks, and won Best Debut Short and the London
Film Club Short Film Festival.
He explores themes of loss,
yearning, transience with energetic genres like surreal thrillers, horror, comedy.
His work focuses on performance-forward narratives, leaning especially into
restlessness. He’s excited by what’s ugly—bugs, mould, scabs, the counterculture.
He is moved by discordance: bent steel or overgrowth breaching concrete. He utilises
elements of collaging, masking and multi-exposure and explores 2D and 3D
animation.
Tobias
began working in the industry by working in the camera department in 2021 on
feature films, documentaries and HETV before moving into production. Tobias
worked with PSC on behalf of Media Guarantors in the capacity of a production coordinator
to assist in the oversight of various high-profile feature productions
concurrently. Most recently, Tobias was a producer’s
shadow on the feature production A Visit to Grandpa’s with Anthony Hopkins and
Catherine Zeta-Jones.
